In late March 2017 my mom, Luci, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Throughout 2017 she had multiple rounds of chemo, two small surgeries and one major surgery. In January 2018, we learned she has persistent ovarian cancer. This means her type of cancer is platinum-resistant (growing despite chemotherapy) and therefore a lifelong disease. After much research and counsel from her medical team she chose to forego future treatments, choosing quality of life over quantity of life. They now estimate she will have about 6 months (from late February, 2018).
This collaborative blog documents our family’s take on losing a loved one to cancer and laughing along the way. Our cynical view doesn’t mean we don’t take death (and life) seriously. It doesn’t mean we don’t shed tears and we’ll share those moments too. If you know Luci, you know her faith and especially her laugh. So we are choosing to laugh together until we see her again.
